Desk Neck Pain: Why Your Workday Follows You Home
Desk Neck Pain: Why Your Workday Follows You Home

If your neck is stiff by 3pm and your headache starts behind the eyes on the drive home, you are in good company. Desk work in Durham Region is hard on the upper back: screens too low, shoulders rounded, and hours without a real break.

What we look for

Neck pain from sitting is rarely “just posture.” We assess:

  • How your mid-back and shoulder blades move — a stiff thoracic spine often dumps load into the neck
  • Deep neck flexor strength and endurance
  • Nerve tension if you have arm tingling or night pain
  • Headache pattern, jaw clenching, and sleep
  • Your actual workstation, even from a phone photo

Treatment that is more than a stretch sheet

Hands-on work (manual therapy, massage, or chiropractic) can settle irritable joints and muscle. Lasting change comes from loading the area well: scapular work, McKenzie-style directional exercise when it fits, and short movement snacks during the workday — not a 40-minute gym program you will never do at a standing desk.

Laser or acupuncture can help stubborn trigger points. We keep the plan small enough to survive a real Tuesday.

When to book

Book if pain lasts more than a couple of weeks, wakes you, travels into the arm, or you are compensating with heating pads every evening. You do not need a referral. We can often see you on a weekday before 6:30pm or on Saturday morning so you do not have to miss a full day of work.
